David, for sure this will help you in 6 months!
Their customer service can be bad, but I just dealt with HSBC which I was thinking that it would be the best one and they were really messy! So I'd rather stay with Abbey - messy with messy, better to stay with the devil I already know!

I learnt that with Abbey it's better to go to their branch, rather than applying for things over the phone.

Don't pay for a silly reward account unless you are actually going to save yourself £15 pm..... it won't help your app for a overdraft/visa....

  • Yeah thats what i thought ill try and cancel it. My only problem is when i speak to the staff they are not even sure of what the reward account even is. Ok ill try to manage my account like that for 6 months just cant have an external credit check as it will be a straight no! They tell me on the phone that the system automatically tells them what your eligible for?

I can't see it on the website, which worries me.....

All banks have internal scoring. I know other banks will still carry out a Credit reference search on you even if you are assessed for the product (ie: i was approved for halifax card but they still carried out a search when I actually applied)

  • Yes the charges have been each month for going overdrawn. Stupid as its my own fault due to being unemployed. I have a job now and i will make sure i wont go overdrawn. Ill be putting in over 2000 but withdrawing about 1200 for bill etc. So if i do this and steadily increase my balance surely that will help after 6 months?

you dont need to steadily increase your balance, its not a savings account you have, they expect things to come in and out of the bank account, leaving a small amount of money each month will increase the chances, but it doesnt have to be loads :)

They have a 3 mth turnaround so keep trying, good luck :)
