  • A few weeks back the wholesale price of gas was negative (i.e. the energy companies were being paid to take it!) but so far this option has not been passed on to me. I know it was a short term blip due to specific situations but ....

If you want to use that line of reasoning.

My Water Company gets all its water for free, yet they still charge me for delivering it to my taps.

Lately they are getting too much water and it is costing them extra money.

Gas companies buy their gas in several ways - future fixed prices, long term contracts(years ahead) at a price geared to the market value at the time of delivery, and 'spot' purchases(like you quoted)

I don't want to get into the B****** Utility Companies not passing on cheap gas to their customers as I have no idea of the actual position; and neither has anyone else on this forum.

However the 'free gas' the energy companies were getting is rather like the huge glut of apples I had this year, I literally couldn't give them away; even the local Nursing home said they were inundated with offers.
No doubt next year we will be paying a fortune for apples from the supermarket.

    Put them in the fridge.
  • I've got a great idea - why don't they take that free gas and store it in all those storage facilities they've built with their profits? Wait a minute....
    Call me Carmine....

HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??
  • Are there storage facilities, as I thought they didn't have the storage capacity for our energy needs.

What about all the gas stored under the sea?
    Why not use that?
