Thanks. He may have to work his notice, so that will be on his list to do straight away. Our Citizens advice is only open 10 to 3. I will ring and write to see if I can speed things up.
    Thanks for your help.

Sorry to hear you were made redundant.
Yes, as he as worked since he was 16-17 I feel it is time for him to get a little back of all the NI and Paye he has paid. Just until he finds another job.
It really knocked him for 6.
I have been surfing the job centre, employment agencies web sites. CV is just being polished up to be emailed/printed and posted off.
I have QUIETLY gone around turning lights off, sockets off, heating and water down a couple of degrees. I put a couple of small blankets on the back of the settee so we can throw them over us instead of putting the heating/fire on too early. More blankets on the bed too.
Walked to the shops, no car park fees or coffee out, so i have started to safe money that way.
I am sorry. I have never really thought about things until the poo hit our particular fan. Thanks for your note as I dont feel so alone.

    Hi Sue,

I also wanted to pop by and say hello :)

Let me tell you I was in a similar situation when I found this site, had debts though, and was signed off sick from work and about to be handed the sack. I too have made all the small sacrifices ( the lights off, the blankets on the sofa :) food saving, along with the bigger things that arnt appropriate for everyone ( eg making decisions over selling my flat) and taking advice on your savings.

You say you have no savings to talk of, but that suggests theres a little something. Even if its only 50 quid, you want that 50 quid to be making the best return for you it can. Make sure your savings accounts are the best they can be in these times.

If you are buying things on the internet in the run up to xMAS by making sure that you get discounts and cashback.have a look at the dicount code part of the forum. Ive saved a few thousand pounds using this over the last few years.

Best of all, when money is coming back in, youll feel richer cos your outgoings are lower, it will make a big difference if you stick with the savings

I also agree with hiom signing on asap, a few hundred quid Im sure would come in handy right now?

All the best- and good luck

Sorry to hear about your hubby. We women have to be strong.
His Mum heard the news and said 'What did Sue say, what does she think?'
He said ' I was behind him 110%' She said well that is all you need.

I agree, I am able to do my bit but thinking about it, it is a big burden to earn enough to cover the bills in this climate.
We are starting to focus now. All tips gratefully received.
I am new to the Forum so forgive me if I am not doing things right.
    Thanks.

He's a specialist Engineer. He hasnt been on any courses over the years as he is always the one to deal with the messy problems and can repair the machinery without the proper tools and without the new courses. His employers promised to train him up, equipment etc but it didnt happen. He was on a basic salary only (nothing else) going out some mornings at 4am to 7 or 8 pm. Now with work slowling down, no courses and no job.
    Thanks for your reply.

    Thanks.
He changed his job in July 2008, so not a leg to stand on. His trade is different to the main stream of the company. I suppose they tried to get his type of work in, couldnt afford to train him to what they do, had to let him go.

Yes, I regularly move our bit of savings to the best rates going at the time.
Sorry to hear what happened to you.
I have explained to the family that they have my love and me at Christmas. I will do work for them, clean, babysit etc but sorry, no money is being spent this Christmas from our side. The grand kids get millions of toys so do they really notice ours? will they really miss ours? I dont think so. When we get back on our feet Nanny and Granddad can get something then. Had fun yesterday at the swings. IT WAS FREE and fun. A 4 yr old pushing me on the swings. I was a little too big for the kiddies slide.
I f I need to buy anything, I will get it through the cash back web sites.
    Thank you for your help.

Thats a good one. He likes guitars. Our son wants to build guitars. Looking into courses for one of them. Will look at ebay for second hand machinery.
It may take a year to get off the drawing board but I am all over that one.
