MS Office 2007

Hi there,
Does anyone know how many times the product key on MS Office can be used? I bought the Home + Student version and installed it on my PC and laptop. Have now tried to install it on my new PC and it won't...says the product key has been used too many times. I have a feeling my bro in law and maybe another family memeber have borrowed it, must have installed it - so am I completely stuck now? I would use Open Office but all my college work is Word 2007 docs so would they open in OpenOffice ok? Arghhh:eek:
I really need to sort out a new signature!

  • 1 copy usually means 1 license, so far you have stolen at least 1 copy, probably more :(

Bizarre: I thought the product key could be 'used' an infinite number of times (theoretically and practically, perhaps not legally) with regards to Office 2007.:)

Oh no....I didn't realise that at all! Thanks for that, do you know if my Office 2007 docs will open in OpenOffice? Or will I need to go buy Microsoft Office again?!

Thanks for the replies - having studied the license terms I've found out that it's licensed for 3 PCs...wish I'd known that before lending it out:eek: (I don't half feel daft sometimes!)
Off to download OpenOffice and see if I can get on with some work.

Because they're really likely to do something that means that only one person ever needs to buy a copy, aren't they?

A single user license will usually allow you to install it onto a desktop PC and a laptop.

Have you tried uninstalling it from your old PC and then trying?

    1. Funny isn't it that a new standard type of doc - .docx - cannot be managed in Open Office

    2. How is that that a very sophisticated package such as Open Office can be distributed for free yet MS has to charge arm + leg for it? Is there no middle way?

I use both Office 2003 and 2007 (not my choice) and would run a mile from 2007 so cluttered and space-wasting is the layout now.

So I suggest that if Open Office will not handle docx files, simply manage your work in .doc format. It's only because people shy away from using Open Office and the like that MS prices stay so sky high.

docx is not a real open standard btw, you will always depend on MS software to edit such docs.
