Nationwide Auto MOT Guarantee

Hi All,
I have just joined the AA and get a free 15 point car check with Nationwide. While looking at their website, I found a thing called the MOT Guarantee which would cost £49.99 on top of the MOT but covers up to £650 of repairs. I have pasted the link below. Could you please have a look and give your opinion as to whether it's worth it or not? I'm not convinced that my car will pass, as I have had problems with it in the 3 months I have owned it.
Thanks! :j

Obvious exclusion which means most people can't claim on it.... "They must be serviced according to manufacturers schedules." And of course you must be able to prove this.
Also the exclusions list looks incomplete. It says consumables such as BUT NOT LIMITED TO. Intriguingly one "consumable" is a windscreen wiper motor - not something I would consider a consumable myself.
So I would only assume it includes the things it says it includes.0 -
It only covers things that are identified in an MOT fail (and not all of thoses either). What problems have you had with the car? This won't cover anything engien related or gear box etc0

i have just had 2 wheel bearings replaced, and brake valves... I think another wheel bearing is going as I can hear it clicking!
What is the manufacturers standard?
I just thought it might be a good idea as my last car ended up being scrapped after the MOT as it would have cost over £500 to pass and it was basically a pile of rusty metal rubbish.
I haven't had much luck recently with cars... can you tel!!0 -
I guess the other issue with this is it's up to you to keep your car roadworthy. You can hardly leave the car in a dangerous condition while waiting for the MOT to come up - and unless your having an MOT they won't pay up.0

Cant start less than 3 months before MOT is due
Cant be more than 12 years old
Cant be more than 120k
Excludes bulbs
It does seem to pretty much exclude everything as well, well at least things its likely to fail an MOT for.
Seems probably a waste of money0 -
Hi
I bought an MOT guarantee for my 8 year old car and I haven't had to pay for MOT repairs since...
Nationwide have just rang to say the repairs are covered by it they just need my policy number which I cant find so it'll have to wait to midweek.
I do understand what you guys are saying through, the policy does seem a little odd and very restrictive. But I think £40 is a good investment to stop them adding unnecessary costs, especially welding underneath which I always seem to need when I'm not covered!
I bet get back to seeing if I can find my policy number...0 -
I've had it twice and not needed to use it. I bought the second one online, and had to book the car in for a pre-inspection, if you like, at the time - a bit like having to get your teeth into good nick before starting dental insurance I guess.
Not sure whether I'll do it again.0 -
Back from my MOT
Charged for Headlight Bulb, Headlight Align and Wheel Align
I know nothing about cars but according to my receipt the "track rod end" was replaced and would have been £75.50 + VAT but that was waived due to the guarantee.
That puts me in profit

Too many exclusions. Waste of time and money. Ask yourself why they offer it? To make a profit.:(
Avoid Nationwide anyway.Very poor in my experience.0
