Hehe, the brown smudge is the PCIE x1 slot. My above post may have been a little harsh because I assumed you had the small form factor desktop model, going by the info in your first post, but my mistake. :silenced:

You can indeed use the PCI card you linked to above, the PSU shouldn't really be an issue with PCI cards. It won't be the latest and greatest, but it will be an upgrade over the onboard graphics and will run more basic games just fine, although cannot comment on the games you mentioned as I don't know much about them.

    Thanks for your time.

Looking at his games which are along the lines of Lord of the Rings, Command and Conquer, Warhammer, War Front, he says he likes strategy games. From what I can gather looking at the recommended spec on the games box, I don't think they are serious games at all.

Looking around, I might be well off the mark, but is this the sort of thing that I am after.....

DEVSTAR Would the first one you mentioned work?

    Thank you

Unfortunately not i'm afraid. As has been mentioned, it looks like your motherboard does not have a PCI-e or AGP graphics slot. This means that you would need to use one that fits to a normal PCI slot like the one you have found! How much of a difference it would make i'm not too sure about. Unfortunately the only other option is a serious overhaul or a new system. Sorry i can't be of more help.

I was just thinking. It seems odd to have a 3 Ghz processor but no agp card slot!
Could you please right click on MY COMPUTER and select 'properties', then tell us what information it gives about your computer please (Should give processor speed hopefully)

The specs from HP's website and the photo both indicate that it has no AGP or PCIE x16 slot. It is a "business desktop", not your best bet for higher end graphics.

The games my son plays are pretty basic, not top end games, he can play them now, but the odd one does struggle, and I know the on board graphics uses the memory, so that was why I thought to get a graphics card.

For games I would recommend at LEAST a nvidia 6600 (Especially as its PCI only), and at LEAST 256 ram
