Since this is a brand new board I thought it would be good to start a thread to see what people want here.
So.........
- What sort of information should be stickied or linked to?
- Are there any threads on the Debt-Free Wannabe or Bankruptcy & Living With It board that you want (or think should be) moved here?
- Anything else?

More pertinent information to what people can do when, for example, they may get breach letters from their IVA company, or if they have changes in circumstances. Often people post problems like that here and I've seen them advised to just throw in the towel and go bankrupt, even though they may be two or three years in. Having completed an IVA and having often sought advice from IPs and seen others seek advice from them at various other sites on the web, there is often alot than can be done to resolve situations that people may not be aware of, that may have a more positive outcome in the long term. Maybe draughting in a decent Insolvency Practitioner to answer specifics like these might help.

How about maybe people experience of IVA from those who have acually completed one or those that have failed and the reasons it failed.
I know IVA get a lot of negative press but it does work for some people. ALthough it worked for me does not mean I would recommeded it to everyone. Everyones circumstances are different but it has worked for some.TOTAL 44 weeks lose. 6st 9.5lb :T0 -
Can I shout at all the people who immediately jump on posters anad imply they are stupid for gettign an IVA?? Its really starting to get on my wick reading about how they are bad and must not be entered into under any circumstances....
From a purely selfish point of view, Id like to see a sticky on what happens after you finish, where you have to go to check its registered that you have finished, and any tips for finishing early and what happens at the end.....
thankyou for this - hopefully this board can help stop the anti-iva vibe !!Do not meddle in the affairs of dragons, for you are crunchy and taste good with ketchup0 -

What's even better is when it's implied that you must be wrong or lying about the details of your own IVA (i.e. the fact that you may be allowed to retain certain, well-serviced credit agreements as I did with my essential trade accounts with the permission of my IP, i.e. the fact that I was able to keep my Nationwide Flexaccount and cheque book throughout and wasn't forced into a basic bankrupts' bank account, i.e. the fact that I wasn't charged an upfront fee despite not going through Payplan). Alot of the criticism aimed at IVA companies is fair and the industry has made a rod for it's own back with greedy practitioners jumping on the bandwagon and preying on the vulnerable, and I understand why the ones who've had bad experiences get really annoyed with people like me saying they had a decent experience, but I agree there is an assumption that anyone who's entered one has been ill-advised and ripped-off. I started researching the options open to me when I realised I had debt problems back in 2000 and didn't enter my IVA until 2003 and I knew my stuff on the subject. I was fully aware that if things went wrong halfway through then I was stuffed and that was my risk to take, I'm no mug.
In response to your queries, you can check at the Insolvency Register when it's finished and within a week your name should be gone (well mine was anyway). You'll receive a final report to your creditors and a certificate of completion from your supervisor.0 -

Not sure that would be possible, on an official level at least.
But it would be nice if one or two friendly IP's were to take it on their own initiative to post with help occasionally.
Or maybe some of the CCCS advisors who post regularly on DFW know someone from CCCSVA part of CCCS? Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB

Not done an IVA but I think that your comment demonstrates why IVAs have such a bad press on here.
Firstly, you spent a lot of time researching you options and were realsitic about the problems if things went wrong.
Secondly, you starting researching in 2000 and started the IVA in 2003. Which meant that your IVA was active before the bulk of the "one easy monthly payment to cut 70% off your debt" merchants really started advertsing on day-time TV.
It is the folk who fell for those tales and did not understand the consequence of something going wrong who were often ill-advised to take out an IVA. Most do not even understand that and IVA s a form of insolvency.
Nothing wrong with an IVA if it is advised by someone who has the clients best interests at heart and the client understands the implications. Sadly, that is not always the case.
Would love to seeMore pertinent information to what people can do when, for example, they may get breach letters from their IVA company, or if they have changes in circumstances.
There are a lot of people need that.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
Haven't had a chance to do much on this, but suggestions are still needed and welcome.
Thanks.

I agree and think it needs to be remembered that it's often those who have problems with their IVAs and are justifiably disillusioned with the process who post on here looking for help. After all, those who are in an IVA and are happy but come to post on a debt help board anyway are obviously in the minority.
There's a lot of misinformation around regarding fees, the role of the IP, and the differences between DMPs and IVAs which I think, coupled with the negative press IVAs have received over the past few years, muddies the waters somewhat. Hopefully this board will go a long way towards addressing that, at least for the MSE community.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW Nerd #4910 -

How about an IVA story that people can read through word for word from start to finish from the original documents, letters and brochures from the IVA and let people decide if what parts were right or wrong about it.No One's Kicking Away My ladder Anymore0
