Recycling Box Lid

Not sure if this is the right place but I can but try!
We live in Maidstone, Kent, and will be having our recycling scheme rejigged early next year. They would like to give us 2 bins but we don't have space so have been told we can continue to use our existing recycling box.
HOWEVER, the box doesn't come with a lid, so all the paper we put in it gets wet and blows everywhere, we then have to take the box through the house, trying to avoid splashing dirty water everywhere. Does anyone know where I can get a lid? Other councils provide them but no ours, ours beleive the lids are a health and safety hazard and could blow off and injure someone
Personally I would imagine paper blowing down the street would be a bigger hazard . I've asked the council where I could get one, but they didn't have a clue??? Any ideas....
P.s its just a standard black box, that looks the same size as every other one people have...

Don't know where you could get a lid but we're in a similar situation.
Bromsgrove Council have had a box recycling scheme for some time. A red box for newspapers etc and Dark box for tins, plastics, glass etc. We were all given just one lid.
Dull or what !!
We put the lid on the dark box and put it out for collection. Don't put out the red box ever, just collect the papers in it and take it to the recycling site.
I'm guessing that the council want us to put the lid on the red box so the paper does not get wet. That would leave the dark box open to the elements to any cat, dog or child for that matter. Who cares about health and safety !0 -
The truth is that the only thing most councils worry about is how much money they can make out of it. Being "green" is the least of their worries!!0

:rotfl:Hahaha, that sounds about right, at least you got one though..... :rolleyes:0 -
Hi
We didn't get a lid either. All i did was ring the number up on the information sheet the council gave us and i asked for one.
I received one a few days later. So give it a try.0 -
We have a net cover for our recycling boxes, it's only for aluminium cans, glasses and pet1&2 plastics. We leave it sitting at an angle against the wall so the water doesn't collect in the bottom, after we got soaked the first week taking the boxes down the drive..
Can you keep the papers anywhere indoors till recycling day? They will come in handy for cleaning windows, disposable mats for kids painting etc.?Member of the first Mortgage Free in 3 challenge, no.19

We get LOADS of junk mail/ pizza menus etc, more than we could store reallyWe didn't get a lid either. All i did was ring the number up on the information sheet the council gave us and i asked for one.
We tried this, that was when they gave us the health and safety rubbish (no pun intended ), seriously how many accidents have been caused by flying recycling lids!0 -
We've got a box with a lid and its not flown off and hurt anyone one, you could use a brick to keep the lid down0

Just a thought but those who have more than 1 box & only 1 lid can you stack the boxes ontop of each other so you only need a lid for the 1 on top?
We are very lucky here & have a big wheeley bin for the recycling, another for the rubbish & yet another for the garden waste (we have a compost bin though so it's not used).
