looking for a cheap holiday 1st week of jan

my husband and i would love to get away to somewhere warm in the first week of january, but, being students and all, money's a bit tight. a couple years ago, we went to lanzarote and had a fantastic time. gorgeous island with so much to see!
the problem is that this year we kinda thought of this a bit late, so i'm having trouble finding some place cheap enough. i've been looking through the package holidays on opodo, fasttrack and lastminute, but nothing's coming up with the availability we need.
basically, we want to go some place warm (20 degrees, plus). the canaries would be ideal. 4-7 nights for under £200 per person, including flights & accomodation. we need to be back in town on jan 9, or sooner because uni classes start on the 10th.
any ideas? the best i can come up with is tunisia, but the hotel listed on lastminute.com got some lousy reviews on the most important aspects (cleanliness & proximity to interesting things (not touristy bars, etc.)).
do you think it's too late now? any help would be very much appreciated.

sloppychops, you are a hero! thanks so much for these! the tenerife one sounds fantastic. i'm going to discuss this with the man of the house when he gets home from work & then book.
just a quick questions about tenerife, for anyone who's been there. is it possible to get around the island without renting a car or joining a tour group? this was a real issue in lanzarote. though the island is tiny, there's so much to see, and no public transport to speak of. we hated sitting in the middle of a tourist resort (though, of course, it's so much cheaper to stay in one than to go independent), especially when there's such beauty nearby. the thing is, though, my husband doesn't drive at all & i have't really driven since we were in an accident a couple years back. renting a car in lanzarote was so stressful for me, that i want to avoid that at all cost. and tourgroups.... i just don't think we can handle those.
i've found some info on buses in tenerife, but i'd like to know just how reliable these are and whether they go to all the places that i should see.
thanks again, sloppychops!0 -

thanks for these. i will look into them. have you booked with icelolly before?0 -
In my experience with ice lolly, you can never get what they advertise and as budgetflyer said these would be base prices. You have lots of extras that are added to these before you get a final price and some of the self catering ones would be based on 3-4 adults so im sure supplements would also be added."Life is not measured by the breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."0
