I know this is not in the home but perhaps somebody can help me anyway. I am thinking of getting my wife a car Radio\CD player for Christmas but I have no idea how to remove the old radio\cassett player and fit the new one.

Is this an easy job? Anywhere I can get advice instructions? Anybody know how to do it.

It would be handy to know what car it is and also what radio is currently in it.
• Your best bet is to head for Halfords. They'll keep you right with removing your old stereo (I think some offers include free fitting). But the important think is they have a range of wiring looms which will plug straight into your existing wiring system (assuming its a reasonably modern car) therby avoiding any complexities.

Hi erb,

You may get more help with your question on the motoring board, so I hope that you don't mind if I move your thread over there.

Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere(please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. If you have any questions about this policy please email !!!!!!.

i paid £20 at my local garage/stereo seller - didn't have to buy from them, and it was £10 cheaper than halfords

Go local and get them to fit it

Yeah, Halfords will do it - but they will charge you for it as well. Support the local economy. lol.

If you have an Aldi nearby, you may be interested in a CD/MP3 car radio that they are selling for £50.

see website today before they post the next offers tomorrow!

CD, CD-R, CD-RW and MP3 playback
USB socket with 50cm cable to connect MP3 players, etc
SD/MMC card slot for downloaded music
Anti-shock: 45 sec for CD, 60-120 sec for MP3
MP3 with ID 3 Tag
Multi-colour display
Fold-down detachable panel, flashing security LED while panel is out
AM/FM radio with RDS function
PLL radio with all standard features and preset stations
4 x 40 watts RMS power output
Electronic audio controls
RCA and ISO connector
Available in silver or black/silver
Carry case for front panel included

Depending on the car, they are usually easy to change over. Basically slide out the old and slide in the new.

A lot of rc players have 4 holes in the front, one on each corner. Halfrauds sell a special tool which is basically a pair of bent coathangers. These push into the holes and allow the unit to be pulled out. I can be quite an effort sometimes. I have used 6" nails in the past for the same effect.
Happy chappy
