Landlord trying it on?

We recently asked for a reduction on our rent as it seems we’re paying over the odds compared with two other identical houses on our estate. We asked for £50 per month off to bring us inline with the other two houses. The landlord then came back with £25 a month for another 6 month contract. Really not wanting to move we agreed.
The estate agent rang this morning saying that she now wants a 12 month contract as she is not allowed to have 6 month contracts in the terms of her buy to let mortgage.
This seems a little far fetched to me. Does anyone else know of any other buy to let mortgages which require a 12 month contract?

have you a problem with a 12 month contract .
If you havent then agree to it and ask for £30 rent deduction ,after all they will have the rent for 12 months ."Do not regret growing older, it's a privilege denied to many"0 -

No. Usually there is a maximum of 12 month AST not minimum!I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards. Why not say you will agree to 12 months if you can have £50 off?

I fully agree. The owners will know that good tenants are hard to find.0 -
Most buytolet mortgages dont even ask for copies of the tenancy agreements.0

We dont want to be contracted in for to long as we have a deposit waiting for a house when the time comes.
Do you guys think the 12 month minimum contract with her BTL mortgage is a fib then?0 -

My vote is that this is a fib, too.... Do you guys think the 12 month minimum contract with her BTL mortgage is a fib then? After the uprising of the 17th June The Secretary of the Writers Union
Had leaflets distributed in the Stalinallee Stating that the people
Had forfeited the confidence of the government And could win it back only
By redoubled efforts. Would it not be easier In that case for the government
To dissolve the people
And elect another?0 -
What about a 12 month contract with a 6 month break clause? And a further discount on the rent!0
