Problem with Dimmer..

I bought a light about 4 or 5 months ago from Alders closing down sale.

I'm a bit miffed that the dimmer seems to be on the blink already.
The main light wont stay on. The fitting has two lamps and two push buttons in the centre.

The dimmer control is located in the base of the fitting and looks like THIS

Opened it looks like this

Light fitting

I've found this on the net The dimmer control I need

Can't find it anywhere outside china.
Any of you sparkies know where I can get one from ??

Well i would try John Lewis. I used to work in the lighting dept in Norwich and we used to be able to order replacment dimmers for some stuff. Now I worked there a year ago so thing may have changed but I would give it a try.

Just go and ask them nicely, take either the dimmer or the info off the back that you have taken the photo of.

But from working in lighting for a couple of years those sort of low voltage dimmers can be trouble.

Anyway good luck and let us know how it goes!

I sent off an email to the company who makes this dimmer...somewhere in china ..I thought
I asked where I could get one from in europe.
I got a reply within an hour or two.
They said I would struggle to find one, as they only sell to lighting manufacturers. They dont supply them as spares to anyone.

They then said they would send me one direct from their factory in Taiwan. He said...fit the dimmer to the light, when it works...send them 10USD.

Where in the world can you get service like that ?? Taiwan..obviously !!

  • Dimmers do seem to go wrong after a while. A few years ago we had dimmer switches in all our rooms. All but one has gone on the blink, and we have replaced them with normal on/off switches. Another problem with dimmers is that they won't work with low-consumption light bulbs.

    Different kind of dimmer

Mine is a control box located in the base of the light fitting.
