PLEASE HELP ME FIND CHEAPER DUAL FUEL...i have tried everything

Hi

Can anyone please help me save money on my combined gas and electricity charges

I live in a mid terraced 6 bed house in Newcastle postcode NE4.

My units for the year for gas are 2459

My units for the year for Elec are 3613

Total kwh per year Gas 18252 Elec 12439

Total cost per year Oct 07 to Oct 08 with standing charge and vat inc £1325.87p

I am currently with Scottish power for both and am on standard tarrif.

I would prefer to avoid paying through direct debit for personal reasons

PLEASE HELP AND ANY ADVICE GIVEN REALLY APPRECIATED.

What have you already tried? After two minutes I find:

(I presume your correct electricity consumption is 3,600 not 12,439)

You should save about £200 switching either to British Gas Click 6 for both or a similar figure splitting Ebico for gas and Click 6 for electric (or, indeed, Utility Warehouse for gas) - about £1100. (If you use DD you can save another £100 - about £1025)

    Usual caveats apply.

There are a whole bunch of other combinations with other suppliers that cost between £1000 and £1225. What went wrong when trying out the calculators yourself?

    .

2,459 gas units do not equate to 18,252 kWh. Are you sure that the figure is not 28,252? as that is approx the conversion if you have a metric meter.
  • APOLOGIES CORRECT FIGURES ARE:-

    KWH GAS 27291

    KWH ELE 6482

if i am looking to go for british gas then do you think money saving expert best to go with to get money back when switching?

    thanks
  • I need to find a cheaper supplier too - Just had enough paying so much money

I don't think British Gas is available via MSE (or their preferred site energyhelpline). British Gas are currently only paying £20 for a dual switch (£10 single) via topcashback or quidco (others are probably available). If you don't already have an account with quidco they will charge you £5.
  • Not sure you should get caught up with cashback unless you plan to do it regularly as with your high usage I would say it's better to just get tyhe very best deal at the moment as the savings will be not inconsiderable. I would imagine it would be best to split gas and electrcity and go with the cheapest company for each fuel. According to Uswitch, and taking into account the fact you won't pay by DD, best 3 for gas are (I've put the savings in the brackets):

    1. npower No Standing Charge (£279.25)
    2. telecom Plus/ Utility Warehouse Standard (£229.75)
    3. edf Standard (£224.31)

Electricity savings are nowhere near as impressive:

    1. British Gas Click 6 (£125.38)
    2. edf Standard (£78.55)
    3. sainsburys Energy Standard (£78.55)

Suffice to say, there's up to £400 savings just by transferring away (this should take a couple of hours effort max). I like to look on that as a decent brand 32" LCD TV :D
