High cost of bus fares?
I recently got rid of my car, was going to get a new one, but looked on itv.com/money real cost of running a car-put me off straight away!
Anyway had to nip out with 2 children today, 1 under 5 so free to travel, the round trip cost £4.04! I know running a car costs a lot, but this trip put me off, will have to think twice about just nipping out again.
Suppose I will have to budget for bus fares, but only used to put £5 a week petrol in the car, but cost of running a car thing-told me my old banger was costing £20 a week to run without taking repairs into account!
But the plan was to save money!

Where about do you live? You might find that some people who commute in and around your area may be better informed from their experience and what works out cheaper for them. Mind you, what is cheaper for them may not necessarily be cheaper for you but they will have a better system for saving pennies when travelling by bus.
Maybe I could suggest that you may be better off getting a travel card especially if you are going to be travelling a lot. Or if you live in London there is always the Oyster Card.0 -
I live in west Yorkshire, I have looked at Metro cards, but you have to travel alot- well every day to make it worth while.
Going to keep all bus tickets for a month and way up the cost.
Was going to work a few 1/2 days after xmas- have changed it to a full day to save on the bus fare- but now must make sure I don`t go on the bus that day!April Grocery challange £175

Sorry don`t know where it`s gone. Last friday i went onto itv.com/money, it was on the end of martins make me rich. There were lots of lnks and sites about money. Then I saw the real cost of runnibg a car, you put all your details in, cost of car, hp, insurance, service, petrol etc and it came out with the cost of running a car.
Maybe someone might me able to help on the Make me Rich chat? Does martin know?April Grocery challange £175

It does depend on how often you have to travel of course. With all the other costs (cost of car, hp, insurance, service, petrol etc) public transport should really be much cheaper. you may notice that a couple of trips by bus in a day may be pricey but over all in a year it may work out cheaper even if you have to travel a lot.

The disadvantage of public transport is it is time consuming. This is another factor you have to decide on but in your case money most probably comes before time, unless you have other responsibilities e.g. dropping off/picking up children from school.
Have you tried contacting your local transport info services? Maybe they might be able to advise you better on what kind of cards to purchase for long-term/short-term use.0 -
A season ticket may be more money saving

Please click the ABUSE buttton on Sassy-one's update, and report their post - they are wasting everyone's time, and new postings on current threads and new threads are pushed down the list of threads as this vexatious poster continues their pointless thread recycling."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0

I don't see why sassy-one could be said to be posting useless posts just because the thread was started 5yrs ago. The theme is still a valid one and there may be people wondering if they'd be better off giving up their cars today.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,
