Starting a DMP with CCCS

Finally getting all the paperwork together to send to CCCS to get my DMP started.

Does anyone know what the cut-off deadline is for them to receive the stuf so that you can start the next month?

It's already November 8th and ideally I wanted to start on December 1st but not sure how long it takes them from receiving your paperwork bundle to actually taking the payments from you and distributing to creditors. I am still waiting for a couple of statements - could I realistically still start on December 1st considering they won't receive my paperwork until November 12th at the earliest?

    Hi Hula

There's a "Sticky" at the top of this board for direct CCCS questions ;)

  • Yes, I know. Sorry for posting in the 'wrong' place but I was just wondering if anyone had an answer from personal experience. Because if so, and I find out that it is unlikely to start before December 1st then I will need to sort out some token payments for the next round of repayments and I can't get to the post office very often as I work shifts so I want to be prepared.

Don't take my word for it, and although I'm with PP, based on how my DMP runs I doubt December 01st will be sufficent time, but I'm sure others will give a more definate answer.

It took about two weeks for the CCCS to set up my husbands DMP. There was also an extra week on top to give him time to open a new bank account. Don't panic if it all isn't sorted though as you can make token payments to your creditors whilst advising them at the same time that a DMP is being put in place.

From my own personal experience, I sent all my paperwork off to them in December last year but my dmp actually started in Feburary so I made token payments in January. It's not so much CCCS taking the time but creditors often take time to respond to CCCS. Why don't you give them a ring on Monday and see what they suggest?

We sent back all our paperwork in March and the DMP started May 1. Don't worry if it takes longer because at least you are dealing with it. Your creditors won't like the token payments but there isn't a lot they can do really.
If they phone, just keep repeating the mantra "My CCCS client number is....You will hear from them as soon as possible"
Or, like us, change your number.
    Absolute bliss.
  • Bear in mind that even if others had a DMP start pretty quickly, that CCCS and the other debt charities are getting busier by the day. What I mean is, someone may have found that "it only took two weeks" when they applied in September, but the queue might now be three, four or more weeks as more and more people are feeling the pinch.

Best to get your application in as soon as possible. Chances are it won't be 100% perfect anyway and CCCS will need to discuss it with you .... and then you might have to find more information ..... so JFDI ;)

    Hello :hello:

I've just checked the dates of my DMP with the CCCS.

At the beginning of February,I sent out the notification letters to my creditors (provided by the CCCS), stating the DMP would start in March. At the same time, I returned some paperwork to the CCCS.

I made my first payment to the CCCS at the post office on 22 February. My creditors received their payments from this amount on 25 March. (The CCCS makes payments to creditors on the 25th of each month. This date can't be changed. My CCCS direct debit is taken on the 1st of each month.)

I think you might be cutting it a bit fine to start in December but check with the CCCS.

It did seem to take "forever" to set up because I felt low at that point, fending off calls and letters from creditors, and just wanting the DMP to start. Once it's up and running, it's brilliant! And the CCCS has been fab!

Good luck and very best wishes.

  • Thanks everyone.

I have already set up the new bank account and cancelled all the DDs and SOs for non-priority debts. I think that it is unlikely that I will be up and running on December 1st but what's another month? The creditors will be getting their token payments and not a penny more.

Yes, it means another month of calls and letters but, as is so often said on here, I can't give them what I don't have.

  • Yep, just be prepared to fend off the calls from the creditors. Just give them your CCCS number and say when they will receive payment and hang up. On the whole, mine were pretty good, they just rang to find out when they would receive payment via CCCS (although they knew this!) and to offer me a stupidly low offer to clear the debt then and there. I wish I'd had the money at the time to do it but if I had, I wouldn't have been going down the dmp route!!

Good luck. CCCS have been great with me so far and most of my creditors accepted my dmp and froze interest and charges almost immediately (and still have). One or two hassled a lot and have only just accepted it and I still get a bit of hassle from one but nothing that I can't handle.
