  • You poor thing! I've not had it but any back pain is bloody. Sugest you ring NHS Direct - they are 24hr & you get to speak to a nurse. Sure someone more helpful will be along soon. (((hugs)))

Awwww Limelight - you have my deepest sympathy! It is definitely an agonising pain.

Apart from painkillers, the only thing I find helps is to make a sort of "bed" on the floor by folding up a duvet underneath me and popping my pillows down on that, and then putting a hot water bottle under my back right by the kidney (where the sharpest bit of the pain is) and then another at the front to get the point of pain in my groin. I also find it helps to elevate the knee slightly on the affected side and put pillows under it to keep it there, and another water bottle there if the knee hurts as well (mine does sometimes and not so bad at others). Don't ask me why the floor is better than bed - I just ended up there one night when I could not get comfortable anywhere else - and it really seemed to be the best spot I had found:o

I have the water bottle as hot as I can  - but I am not sure whether it is just cos the near burn from the bottle takes my mind off the pain or what:o .

I can't take ibuprofen, but if you can then you can take this as well as paracetamol (staggering the doses is best I understand) which might help a bit until the doc can give you something stronger. Oh, and if you can get in the bath then I sometimes find a really quite hot bath will ease it for a little while, last time I couldn't lift myself in and out though:rolleyes: .

Good luck (does your docs not have an emergency surgery on Sat a.m.? - alternatively you could try A & E if it gets too much to cope with).

  • hi would suggest being curled up in bed normally helps in foetal position with strong painkillers and if u can buy a tens machine would help loads..... gentle hugs till monday!!

I didn't think of the tens machine as it's already attached to my shoulder.

I'm currently in the walk-in centre, waiting to see a nurse.
