this is probably a really daft question BUT...............
i receive my wages via cheque at end of each month, put in the bank clears etc. however got a shock this morning when received letter from barclays saying chq been returned unpaid. they have presented it again yesterday & i have informed work. however worryingly they havent returned my message!
my question is
if the chq gets returned again what will happen? will barclays keep trying the chq or do i confront work midweek & ask for another? i am starting a new job monday so hopefully the chq will clear & i have made the right choice!

If the cheque is returned for the reason 'Refer To Drawer Please Represent' then that usually means that the drawer of the cheque is expected to have funds to cover it shortly and the Bank will represent the cheque on your behalf. They will usually do this about 3 times (this may have changed since I worked for a Bank).
After this, or if the drawer is not expected to have funds to cover the cheque anytime soon, it will be returned unpaid with the answer 'Refer to Drawer' in which case the cheque will be returned to you and you can ask for another one - or ask for cash instead!

God I hate cheques.
But anyway, yes, three times is still the standard for us to represent the cheque for you. If it's still not paid after that, you can have it back (and look for a new employer presumably). What would William Shatner do?0
