  • hi,

I was assessed as dyslexic at college. When I started uni I had a Needs Assessment in which a Educational Psychologist talked about my difficulties with me and offered solutions in the form of various pieces of equipment and support.

The support that was on offer was computer/pc along with a printer and scanner to help with completing work, various software packages such as mindmapping and reading aloud,, a recorder to tape lectures, sheets to cover pages when reading to alter the background colour (helps with the contract which disrupts reading) and tutorial support from someone who has experience of dealing with the problems with organisation etc dyslexic people have. There may be more but i didnt get offered/need these.

    hi,

Its a whole variety of tests; talking about past difficulties and experience of education/learning, reading, writing, spelling, spatial awareness, pattern spotting.

The tests are reported as percetiles and certain patterns in this indicates whether dyslexia as a diagnosis.

there's more than 1 test type, i had the webster test administered and that was mostly mental problems, moving around and rearranging shapes.

My university (keele) pays an outside company to offer learning support services, which anyone can go to and be assessed for dyslexia for free, and then appropiate support is provided from there on.

For example alot of students on my course have personal note takers who sit in lectures and make professional notes which the student can understand, they are also provided with items like Dictaphones.

My friends say they try lots of different methods until they find one that suits your learning style :)
