  • You are right, something needs to be done to stop Arnold Clark from getting away with downright lies and misleading customers about extended warranties!

I bought a 2 year old Audi A3 from the Glasgow Charing cross branch (Lexus). After refusing the £295 warrenty extension when I bought the car, when I went in to pick up the car, I was persuaded against my better judgement by the salesman and his manager that I would be crazy not to take this out (loads of horror stories about all the things that can go wrong, how I would have so much piece of mind not having to worry about mechanical and electrical faults etc). Anyway 6 months later airbag light and service light come on and I call them up, to be told I would need to pay. Explained that I had taken out extended warranty, told no worries, no charge. I take the car up to Glasgow and get a call in the afternoon to tell me that I had to pay £90 for a diagnostic test and then charged as electrical faults not covered as it wasn't covered under my warranty. Queried that and the slippery manager tells me that all garages will charge for diagnostics, told him it stated on the aftecare that electrics were covered, but he would not confirm that I would not have to pay anything above the £90 diagnostics no matter what they found. Phoned the Audi garage and explained the situation to be told the car was covered under manufactures warranty and they would do a diagnostics and repair for free! So, told Arnold Clark at Charing Cross not to do the repair.

Picked up the car, I asked for the £295 back as I could not trust them to carry out any warranty repairs without charging me and that I was "recommended" to take out the warranty in the first place which under FSA rules they should not do. Manager was a horrible, arrogant, condescending pratt who argued that warranty was great and that they every right to "convince" me to buy it. Anyway to cut a long story short, I got my £295 back but only after arguing with him for 20 minutes and theratening him with the FSA!

My recommendation to anyone considering buying a used car from Arnold Clark is don't do it. Try to find a reputable company who don't mislead you and then treat you like a child when you complain about the customer service. Arnold Clark couldn't spell customer service!!!
