Dell PC cheaper if you buy as a Small Business

Alfie_E wrote:As I said, it was along time ago, so don’t know how the website works today. Either I wasn’t asked, or was able to just leave the information blank. I do remember that Dell must have just copied my personal name into the business name field, as all their correspondence had my name twice at the top. I certainly didn’t declare I was a business.
If, today, I had to fill in a company name, I’d put something like “N/A”. As part of their Trade Compliance section, you get to declare separately that it’s for home use. I can’t say for sure they’ll accept the order, but, if they ship to you, you’ll have your full consumer rights.
Another tack might be to try to buy through their call centre. Spell out that you want a specific product, and you don’t want anything from the “Home” section. I would be very surprised to hear that a member of Dell’s sales team would turn away a sale, because you were the “wrong sort of customer.”
Hi
Bought one last week - did not have to enter a company address and when it asked, I selected the home use option. As previously stated, their T+C's don't state any differences in sales of good act etc.
The laptop turned up on monday (ordered last thursday) and is perfect - would recommend.
Happy xmas

Rest assured wherever you order from on the dell site does not affect your statutory rights.
The only reason for the 'Home' & 'Business' sections is to aid the buyer into choosing a suitable system and also that the 'Business' sections show cost excluding VAT.
Consumers can buy from the 'Business' section and businesses can buy from the 'Home' section. All purchasers in the UK pay VAT.
...and whilst I'm at it, the 90 day CAR does NOT mean the goods are only guaranteed for 90 days - they are guaranteed for at least 12 months but you will need to send them back at your own expense after the initial 90 days.
Whatever the guarantee period, this also does not affect your statutory rights."Now to trolling as a concept. .... My other half who has a phobia about computers has decided to buy me a replacement PC for Christmas. He has chosen the Dell 5150 and was trying to keep it a secret but had to get my assistance to get an agreement e-mailed to me.
Anyway, having viewed the spec I am not sure why but the price is £849.01. Is there anyone that could guide me as to the best spec for the best price so that I can ring them and go through it online please.

Hi Auntyjean
You could lose about £90 off the price if you get rid of the three year extended warranty.
Other than that it seems like a resonable spec machine for that price.

It depends on what you want, but my suggestions (as well as opting for 90 day CAR) are:
1. Delete any software you are paying for (e.g. MS office). Chances are you could buy it cheaper elsewhere - and I mean legal versions
2. If you are paying extra for the RAM, go for the minimum. Dell charge a small fortune for memory and it's very simple to buy and install yourself
(If in doubt, order from crucial.com who will guarantee compatability if you use their selection service, either by model or sanning the actual machine)
3.Delete the printer - Dell printers are very expensive on Ink
Basically Dell are only competitive if you buy the basic machine, they make their profit with the add-ons that they hope you will be tempted to buy at the same time.
If you can't configure the computer to delete these items, try a different starting point - or call Dell to configure the actual machine you want rather than a pre-defined one."Now to trolling as a concept. .... You can use the codes but dont click on the direct links as they will place a cookie on your computer and you wont get your cashback.0

Thanks to everyone.
I did try the DMS thread but it is simply the same basic PC with the lowest spec (15" monitor etc.).
Hope everyone had a great Christmas. There is always light within the dark0 -
Hi
Got the same comp 5150 a few months ago, paid £618approx, with 19 TFT monitor, 256 pci express graphics card, 250gb hd, please look carefully before you buy, make sure you have free delivery and 12 collect & return warranty. Just look at their deals, and then either upgrade/downgrade.0 -
