I don't think that's quite right - credit history isn't like the doctrine of original sin, you aren't born with bad credit (or turn 18 with bad credit).

I agree that not having had credit in the past can affect getting it in the future, but saying "= bad" seems a bit simplistic, to me.

I have got hte impression from the mortgage board, which may not be right, that not having had credit in the past is less important for mortgages than for other types of credit.

Speaking for ourselves, we have no debt, but do have credit. We both have credit cards (cashback, paid off monthly) and also both have 0% cards as well, and contract mobiles.

Yes there is a difference between no credit and bad credit. But the end result is the same i.e. the lender don't want to know.

It's easier to build a credit rating from zero then trying to repair a bad one however.

Some of the BTL slum landlords (Hello chucky) on here would be better off investing their time attending Adult Literacy classes.

What Chucky and Dan: don't seem to want to accept that in order for prices to rise mortgage fraud has to return back to the scene. Also mortgages being dished out to anyone has to return too.

They sort of realise the flaw in there own logic but most likely haven't put 2 and 2 together yet! And that is:

'all you need is a decent credit history'

It was mortgages being dished out to those with dodgy credit history that caused the house price inflation in the first place!

So I now see that they accept that prices will never rise and will continue to fall for a long while yet.

Party is over Chucky and Dan: time to nurse your hangovers somewhere else!

mortgage fraud - i'm assuming that's what everyone did to get a mortgage previously... well your interpretation of that because that was the excuse that you made to yourself because you were not able to get one i can only assume.

not everyone committed fraud - it was because they had enough earnings.
and for your info, you don;t need just a good credit history - other criteria is involved.

i don't know anyone who had a 10x morgage, that's just an urban myth of the A44Downey, Fatpig, Napoleon and the others who are misfortune even to themselves.

being a wannabe house owner is not a good thing especially when you're never going to be one.

correct - you won't be selling anything in this market especially not a decent HPI price but some people will never even be this fortunate - not even to buy a property as a home. it's very, very sad and will be retiring still having to pay rent.
