Good evening: I strongly recommend that anyone contemplating work in his/her property to ask for a fixed, written quote for a 'job' and not pay by the hour as you could end up paying much more than you thought.

I would source the suite yourself from B&Q, Wickes, Screwfix, even Argos do them I think! I have always found them to be much much cheaper than these specialist bathroom shops. The taps can be sourced much cheaper as well from the same sources, or even e-bay (although the quality would worry me if I couldn't see it before buying).
Then get out the yellow pages and find a local plumber who will fit it for you, the chances are that he/she (;)) will also doing the other bits and pieces for you too.
I usually reckon on £500 max for the suite and taps and about £500 more for the fitting (I do my own tiling and other bits and bobs so that really is just for the plumbing bit)... for £8000 you should be able to get a stonking bathroom fit for a king!
Good evening: Yellow Pages:eek: Personal recommendation is the best place to start. Better quality sanitaryware, brassware etc can be sourced from plumbers merchants eg. PTS, City Plumbing, local independents at decent prices...they do sell to the public. Buying bathroom goods online can be fraught with difficulty as recent threads can testify.

I am just about finished installing my two new bathrooms. Both have had all of the plumbing moved around (though not changed rooms). I found a plumber through my builder who I found on http://www.ratedpeople.com. I got four quotes from them and all were pretty good, all turned up to quote on time and gave written prices quickly. I would suggest that finding a plumber is the first place to start, as if he cannot do the other work he will have trades people he works along side, and if you trust his work then chances are the other trades people he works with will be of a similar standard. I got all of my bathroom fittings, including taps, from https://www.victoriaplumb.com. All products have been excellent quality and have had no problems with install. All of my tiles were bought from https://www.MrsStone.com, if you want natural stone you won't find cheaper or better quality in my opinion. In total, for labour and all materials, including underfloor heating, we have spent £5169 on both bathrroms, sizes 3 x 1.4m and 2.5 x 2.5m.
Sorry to babble on, but my point was you shouldn't have any trouble completing your work for less than your £8k budget.0 -

Just tried this link & it doesn't seem to work. I'm looking for some stone flooring....

Try to get the phrase CHEAPEST out of you mind and put BEST VALUE in there instead...
the cheapest way is do it yourself but as you have said that is not a choice..
who ever you end up with go for a written quote stating what is going to be done..(detail detail detail)
if half way through you decide to move the bath over just a bit and maybe a slightly bigger shower THIS WILL ADD COSTS...
so RE-SEARCH CHOOSE PLAN QUOTE STICK PAY ENJOY..
RE-search what you want and costs of choice
Choose waht you want and who you want..
Plan with contractor including costs and time line..
Get written quotes and include 10-15% for unforeseen problems
Stick to your plan and budget
Pay your builder and look forward to a future project
Enjoy your end result knowing its what you wanted and what you wanted to pay..
