Help - Mouse Gone Mad!!

Anyone got an answer for when the pointer suddenly jumps all over the screen? It feels like a virus or mischief program - have tried AVG and CCleaner but problem persists.
Any suggestions please - driving me mad:mad:

Is it an optical mouse? It could be that you need to get a different sort of mouse mat (preferably a plain one :)) so that the light picks it up. If you can't get a new, plain mouse mat, put your mouse on something plain temporarily, like a blank sheet of paper. :)
  • Have you reset both the keyboard and mouse after you changed the batteries? Alternatively are the batteries reasonable good ones as the cheapo ones don't last any length of time.

Try using non-rechargables as they last much longer than rechargable ones. Just remember not to plug in your lead that charges the rechargable ones.

    :)
  • If it's a non-optical ball-type mouse there are 2 or 3 rollers inside the mouse's bum that may need cleaning. Remove the ball by unscrewing the cover and look in the hole that's left - you should see what I mean.....

In many cases it helps if you say where you are - someone with local knowledge might be able to give local specifics rather than general advice
  • :j Once again MSE earns its corn - problem solved - combination of batteries and lack of plain surface - Cheers to you all - a bit less stress for me today :T

Well done and thanks for the prompt assistance :A
