Does anyone know if I can have two Nationwide Flexaccounts ??

I currently have a Nationwide Flexaccount for my everyday banking, its a fantastic account for many reasons but now I wish to open another current account to run some matched betting through.

However with Nationwide having virtually no charges on foreign currency exchange its the ideal account for this purpose.

So does anyone have 2 Flexaccounts and if so do both accounts have to have a certain amount of income each month or just one of them??

You can certainly have a joint FlexAccount and another in your name only, as this is the situation we have. I doubt there would be a problem with opening another FlexAccount - I think that once they have approved you for one and know your income and spending habits, getting another is not a big deal. It's not exactly in their interest to stop you - the additional overhead for them should be minimal and there's a greater chance of you keeping your money with them.

Yep, I've got two. (It's handy if you want 2 x £500 cash out at the branch counter without notice) Another trick is regarding clearing of cheques you recieve (earning no interest) Two accounts at least allows you double up on the '£3000' balance on which Nationwide pays any sort of interest (currently up to just 3%) since you can ask them to split a cheque amount for you. Thus cheques up to £6k can earn interest from day 2.

I also hold two Nationwide Flex accounts - one jointly with my OH and one in my name. I should think you would be able to apply online.
  • I would advise going into the branch to open an account if you think there may be any difficulties.

My account was scammed in June due to a total lack of security by Nationwide, who apparently do not make any effort to verify that new direct debits on an account are genuine. I am currently trying to open a replica of this account to replace the compromised one. I visited 2 of their branches, and both of them were "too busy to deal with new customers". This at a time when we are told that financial institutions can't get enough customers. As a result I had to apply on-line (there is no facility there to pass a message to them about the application). They tell me that I can only have one with a cash card, not the cheque book & card I already have because of my low credit rating. I put an appeal in against this as I only wanted a duplicate of what I already have not extras, and it is their fault the account was scammed to start with. I have been promised a decision which I should have had by now so will have to phone the morons again on Monday. The reason my credit rating is low is because of their arrogance, they tell you to get in touch if you have problems repaying - I did they didn't help at all.

I reckon that the only reason the branch staff are so friendly; is that they realise that if they behave in the way that their office-bound counterparts do they would get a much deserved beating.
