I think you're doing incredibly well!

Well done on getting the other BTL filled. Do you mind me asking if you use agents or do it yourself? We have a property which we will soon be looking to find a tenant for and we're total beginners and although we're leaning towards finding and managing ourself it seems quite daunting to intitally get going.

Motivation... the thought of having the spare money all to myself one day in the very (very, very) distance future :P
  • Hi

I too think you are doing very well.

Try to keep looking forward now and it will come right. We all don't have available funds for making those OPs every month. You are getting yourself back on track and thats the main thing - focus on what you have achieved.

Motivation, I tend to read other peoples diaries...:-)

  • OK, so a quick update from me. All three mortgages had arrears up until yesterday but I've cleared all arrears now on the two BTLs. I have a whacking great amount to go on our house as the monthly payments quickly stack up to huge numbers but I paid a nominal £50 today which was left in my personal account to feel like I'm still taking action.

So next job is to smash that and then I can focus back on overpayments!

Any motivational messages welcome as this has really felt like a slog the last few weeks.

  • Well done to have cleared your arrears on the BTL properties. It must be scary indeed having such a big mortgage balance, and easy to see how quickly the arrears mount up. Is your lender being sympathetic to the arrears on your main mortgage?

Re: the replies, I have no idea having just started my own diary, but perhaps people are more likely to reply if they have been in similar situations and feel they have advice to offer / experience to draw on? It was one of my fears when I started my diary that a big balance would put people off replying, but I think everyone is of the same mindset - whether they have a huge mortgage or a relatively small one!

I have subscribed to your diary and will look forward to following your progress!

  • Thanks for the reply CA, I noticed your diary seemed to have a lot more interaction than mine so wondered what I was doing wrong!

The mortgage provider has been horrible about the whole thing, very unsympathetic and if I phone to make part payments they ask me to justify myself in a very humiliating way. I'm self employed so my income is variable but they make me feel very useless in each call, so I've now taken to transferring monies to the account via internet banking so I don't have to go through the drama each time.

Hubby has now got 2 more PPI claims going through and we're hoping these are resolved within a month (we're told one will be) so that will be more to hopefully put against the house(s).

I am reading hon, but size of mortgages is so scary my fingers usually tremble too much when I try to type . Hopefully things are going your way :D.
A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort
    :) Mortgage Balance = £0 :)

There are a lot of new diaries to read, and not much time to do it all in now that summer is over and work has hit with a veangence!

Also when I have a lot of diaries to plough through, I'm more inclined to reply to people who have been here a while and who I know are likely to be here this time next year. It's not nice if you start feeling involved in someone's life and they suddenly disappear, which is what happens with a lot of new diaries. Although I know that a lack of replies means people are more likely to disappear! It's a bit of a catch 22.

Keep posting regularly (even if it's just once a month, or week) and people will gradually get to know you and you'll get replies. Also post on other's diaries and you'll get people subscribing to yours which means it will get read more regularly. If I'm in a hurry, I just read my subscribed diaries, not all of them.

Keep plugging away, replies will come!

  • Thanks Sepa.

At the end of the week, all the rental payments will come in so those will go on that big ugly arrears on the biggie mortgage along with whatever I can take as salary. This morning it looked a bit bleak but it's been an exceptionally good day in the office so it may be a few days away but I think I can be all caught up in the next few weeks! Result.

How is everyone else getting on with their overpayments at the moment?

Nice to see a few diaries appearing recently of other huuuuge mortgages. Makes me feel a little better to know I'm not alone!

    Your figures look really scary.

Really impressed with the BTL, going to try and follow your diary ( have never worked out how to subscribe to a diary though). I would love to do a buy to and I've wanted to do this for about 17 years. My ex-hubbie wasn't interested though and it's a scary thought with the upkeep that's involved. Once I've paid my mortgage I may give it a go.
