AOL DD Advice please

Options
Hiya!

I have a DD set up with AOL for £14.99 every month.

This has been going without hitch for well over a year, then in July they e-mailed me to let me know they would be changing the payment date to 7 working days after the original one ( i.e the 29th instead of 22nd )

This was fine and on 29th of July they took the £14.99. On 29th August however it wasnt taken, so I called them up at the beginning of september and asked what was wrong. I was informed that they took the payment and all was well. Another phonecall to my bank confirmed that they hadn't called for the money and it hadnt been debited.

I phone AOL again and tell them that, and the guy said oh when we changed payment systems it seems we missed a 0 out at the start of your account number! So I confirm with them the correct details and I think all is rosy!

1st of October a payment is taken without hitch, albeit a few days after when they said they would..... but I dont worry because there was suffiecient funds there anyway.

Now we're at 7th of November and nothings been taken again, so I call them up and she said I owe them £29.98 for August and November! So I ask why there has been a problem with the direct debits and ask her to confirm the account number and sort code they have. She has said she will have to ask their banking dept about it and that will take 72 hours, and the details she gave me were correct!

She also said that the august payment was returned unpaid - yet in september i was told they had a payment for this!

I called my bank just now and theyv confirmed that there have been sufficient funds in my account at all times since the last payment they took on 29th July, and that they have never called for any money apart from that one time on 1st October.

So question is...where do I stand with this? I understand that they want payment for August and November, but what I dont understand is why they have not taken the payments as instructed when they managed it in July and October! Also why they have never contacted me regarding any problems they have had and just let this carry on?

Thanks in advance.:o

This is really an issue for AOL to resolve, as something seems to be amiss with their banking.

I would suggest, in the nicest sense, ignoring the problem unless AOL contacts you. They have working payment details and you have had payments debited previously.

If they contact you, just re-explain the situation, and tell them to re-try their debits. If they try to insinuate you are in the wrong at all, complain.

  • Thank you Barclays Manager,It just seems really silly to me. I dont think I'll chase them up today because it will cost me a fortune in phonecalls! I am leaving them anyway as soon as my contract is up at the end of January! Thanks again.
