What's the deal with Tesco & Asda? (Mod; please move if in wrong area)

  • I hadn't used coupons for several years and only after finding this site and realising what I could save started again. I use my local Asda (Preston) and have had no problems with coupons whether I've bought the item or not. I've yet to try them at Tesco.

    I've been Money Tipped!
Today will be an excellent day to use coupons at Tescos as they draft in al staff eg security/cafe people etc and they bung anything through as it's not their job and if they argue massive queuses build up!

Also pick the males every time they are much better for coupons I always go to the same ones despite the size of their queues I'll wait for money off!

for the first time ever yesterday i had coupons refused at Tesco. i was told they were only allowed to accept one coupon per shop unless I'd bought the item

  • I did a shop this morning at 6am - bought a 5MP digital camera for £39.97 and a MP3 for only £9.97 plus a few other bits. The young lad on the till, said pass me as many vouchers as you want, if they scan you can have the money off. So I gave him my vouchers and had £12.00 off - he told me to pick on the young chaps like himself as they will "scan anything and tescos can claim it back". Other times it is the complete reverse and they have refused to take them. Swings and roundabouts at my store.

    Thank you for your email.

I am sorry to learn that your coupons were not accepted in our store.

With regard to coupons from brand name manufacturers, we are happy to accept one, even if you have not purchased the product. The coupon must be in date and Tesco must sell the item. If you present more than one identical coupon, then you must purchase the same number of products.

This also applies to coupons printed from the Internet. These will only be accepted at the discretion of the Store Manager.

Please accept my sincere apologies for the disappointment caused.

Working in the retail business selling branded products to the big supers, I am always looking at all ways to boost the sales, vouchers being one of these. However the policy of accepting vouchers whether the product was bought or not meant we stopped doing this - pointless ! I would suggest in the past few years we have seen a lot fewer vouchers as all suppliers catch on. Net effect - the consumer loses out, and we lose the ability to get people to try a product they wouldn't normally purchase
I've been told that the supers are getting stricter on vouchers - we'll see...
    am I missing something ??

    LOL sounds exactly like me,

I used to accept as many coupons as the customer had till i got into trouble and can now accept a maximum of three coupons.

however anyone who comes to my till i always scan the highest value coupons and put them through regardless, if its quiet and it one of my mates i might slip one or two more on their but its at my own risk really

Personally i dont care about the % rule if it scans it scans its good enough for me
  • My son is a student. He went to but lunch with a lunchon voucher I had given him. Sandwiches had been reduced to 10p. He bought 2 packets and the woman gave him 30p change!

  • I agree there voucher policy is 'very annoying' to say the least - and I'm all for doing something about it (x3) my local tesco won't take any (stopped shopping there immediately!) despite a personal email saying they will from HO - the store customer service sucks in all matters not just vouchers and I've told them so!

The local Tesco extra says no but takes em whenever the till person wants to... the annoying bit is my sister frequently takes me shopping there by car so we do a bigger shop (x2!) but if she's in one queue whilst I'm in the other -you can bet she'll get refused whilst I'll have double accepted. So now what we do, is simple I go first so that once the operator takes mine then they can't say no to her - this works somehow. I had a stubborn operator once and I simply said right then I don't want the extra items just the milk and one or two other essentials as I'll go to Asda's down the road who will take them. The checkout operator quickly took my vouchers stating I'll do em this time as they didn't fancy manually taking off a refund for each item individually! I said fine as that's the only reason I bought so much - quite true really!

I also shop online with discount codes for groceries and at local Asda which always take 10% at least - due to opening of Tesco extra on their turf.
