Would it be right to get another cat?

the poem makes me think of my Stormie...did you check out the Persian and Birman rescue sites? some really cuties - lots of pedigree cats are being given up at the moment because people can no longer afford them, their circumstances are changing due to financial woe, so loads without any 'issues' are out there looking for a loving mummy

it was that poem that resulted in my fabbo little dog Badger coming here from the dog rescue after my oldie passed away.
I had my doubts, then read that and thought 'go for it'! I have no regrets :-)
I also told a lady who came to the door trick or treating about the same poem when we got talking about dogs, and her old lab that had passed - she got a bit tearful too!
dont come to my house trick or treating - or I will make you cry! lol0 -
you could compromise and get a rescue persian

Well I spoke to DH about it tonight & he's dead against it:(
He thinks I'm thinking about it for the wrong reasons, he thinks I'm after a replacement for Ted. He could be right, in a way he is, but I know there was only one Ted, what I'm trying to fill is a gap not Ted's spot (I think).
I spend quite a bit of time at home alone. DD has her own life & spends half the week at her boyfriends (he spends half the week here).
DH works long hours & I'm usually first home to an empty house & then DH goes to bed early because he's up early & I'm here alone:(
Ted was someone to chat to & now he's gone I miss him desperately, I miss the companionship.
I know I could probably try & talk DH around, but if he doesn't feel right about it (& he says he would feel guilty, like he was betraying Ted's memory) then I don't think I should try & force him:(0 -
You could always have another chat with him in the new year when he's had a couple more months to get over Ted.0

I was in a similar position at the end of November last year. My cat who was 10 had to be put to sleep. He had been ill but he had been responding well to the tablets he was taking to is was quite unexpected.
Initially I thought I was being disloyal by even thinking about getting another cat but because he had been pretty much a house cat, I felt the house was empty without him there. We were going to wait until after Christmas but missed him so much that we got a kitten just before Christmas. We got a completely different breed as I also wanted a house cat.
I got a BSH just before Christmas and then got another BSH kitten in January this year. I did feel guilty thinking about getting another cat however I am so pleased I did. They are both completely different to my old cat and I feel the house would be empty without them here!0 -

Perhaps he will change his mind now I have mentioned it.
IF we do get a kitten I would get an EXOTIC SHORTHAIR
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exotic_shorthair
As they are a shorthaired persian, same great tempermants but without all the grooming, but still got the cute snub nose.
They don't have the majestic coats of persian, so I will get one in a striking colour, maybe a colourpoint?
I will be prepared a fair amount to pay for the right cat (after all its a family member for years to come & the purchase price is well overshadowed by all the other costs that are incurred over their lifetime) so if anyone knows of anyone who breeds healthy exotics in a home environment (rather than kitten farm type thing) I would be glad of a PM.0 -

Hi, my old cat Charlie died just over a year ago and I still miss him all the time. Our house wasn't home without a moggy and even though at the time we felt that we would never get another cat as we felt we would be replacing him we now have another furbaby!! We got a kitten as we had Charlie from an older cat and they are two completely different personalities so just feel glad to give another cat a happy home. Wait until you feel 100% ready and go for it.Remember ....its not a bargain unless you need it

Sorry to hear of your loss. Have you explained to your OH about how YOU feel about getting another cat and the companionship etc that a cat gives you when you are at home alone? There is a chance that he may not be seeing how important you find the company when he is not there.
If your OH comes round and you are looking for an exotic shorthair, I know an excellent breeder (she also breeds Persians). PM me anytime if you want the details.0
