I feeling really worried today about something i heard on tv this morning ,i am a worrier anyway .It was david cameron saying something about credit card companys are going to be able to break into peoples houses and take what you owe them .
I am on a DMP with CCCS i owe quite abit to credit cards & loans i am sure it would have been talked about on these forums but i have heard nothing about this up til today .Could somebody tell me alittle more about this .When is this likely to happen ? Are the credit card companys def going to beable to do this ? It really scares me plus it would be really embarrassing if it happens if you had friends or family round .

Credit card companies can't "break into peoples houses" - the only people who can enter your house and remove your property are Bailiffs. And they can only do so if they obtain a CCJ for the debt and you then fail to pay the CCJ...
I didn't see David Cameron but it would seem that maybe he got his facts mixed up a little or you misunderstood him? Unless ofcourse they are planning to change the laws which I can't see happening unless they want the country to dive into deep depression which is what they are trying to avoid at the moment...

Thanks for your reply he said that the law was going to change so the credit card companys could break into peoples houses ,david cameron was saying this is not right he he was going to try and stop the credit card companys from doing this .
I am thinking now though have i heard right cause i didnt hear all of the interview and im sure if i was right other people would have heard about this to .0 -
I saw the programme too and David Cameron said that the government are trying to change the law to allow baliffs to enter your property and take your possessions to repay credit debts even if you are making payments because of a CCJ.
I was very worried when I saw the programme too.0 -

Guys, there is no point in worrying about this at the moment. I find that worrying too much makes me make bad decisions and makes bugetting even harder.
If it looks like the law is going to be changed, then Martin will do some articles on the website and let people know clearly what is going and and what they should do about it.
Try and have a good day.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
The change in law is possible. There was a link to a No10 petition against it sometime ago here.
But even if it is bought in, it will not be as simple as just owing money and them turning up with a crowbar. There will still be legalities in place and processes to follow, plus it will take time to change the law and implement it, so worrying about it now won't help as its something that may or may not happen. Also its probably better to find out facts first, rather than listen to a politician.......0 -
It would take some time to happen, as others have said.
Just gives me more reason to keep to my DMP and make sure I pay as much off as I can - the sooner I pay everyone back, the less hold they can have over me

Here is the original thread some time ago and links to Consumer Action Group, the BBC news articles and the petition (which I think is probably out of date somewhat now).
It is worrying. But its an old thread with old details, so again, its fact finding thats important.0 -
Hi
There is a section in the Tribunal Act 2007 which has been suspended until such time as the whole bailiff industry is regulated.
There is also a section which would permit charging orders and possibly orders to sell even if you comply with the CCJ. Not require but permit.
There is a No 10 petition going on that - see here http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1172777If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
