where to put my money?? help...

am selling my house and moving to spain. with the remainer of my dosh (about £100.000 ) i need to put it somewhere so that it would give me some extra income per month. i am not too good with figures, had a look at building societies online to see what rate they give and was hoping for about 5%!!
I dont want an account that i have to keep switchng to earn extra. just want to tie it up for maybe a year or 2 and forget it. any advice off anybody would be well helpful. I'm just hopeless with money. thanks in :
