I can't even change the front bulbs in the thing! :o

I phoned the garage today and they're taking it in on Monday. I asked if it was the same as before, would it be better to change all 3 coils, and he said it was probably a good idea, as very often if you change one then the others will go in a month or so. Wish he'd mentioned that when they replaced the first one!

Nope. We have a reliable local garage. Been stung at the main dealers before!

How long do ignition coils usually last? I first posted about this a year ago and today the same thing has happened (same car, now at 107k miles). It feels the same as before. It's not been into the garage yet though - it's going in first thing tomorrow morning.

I'm sure I read somewhere online that there had been problems with the ignition coils on 2001/2002 A4 models. But I thought if they'd all been replaced then that would have been the end of that problem.

13000 miles doesn't seem an awful lot of miles for them to go again.

Good man/ girl. Main dealer = rip off, "usually"

Get the old coils back as 1 or 2 could still be perfectly servicable, and can be used to diagnose future issues:T
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed

Yes, I think you remember right. There were a lot of VAG group cars of that vintage that had dodgy coils - I knew a lot of people who had trouble. At one point so many cars needed replacements that it took over 6 weeks just to get the spares.

It's been a good, solid, and usually pretty reliable car. We've had it for 5 years and apart from normal wear and tear it's been fine.
