Hi, just got the TomTom one XL with the SD card for Western Europe. I admit I don't know the first thing about these things but managed to install TomTom home and update the maps, I think i have also backed them up on TomTom .:j
When I came to put the WE SD card in it tells me to take it out. when I do it conected to TomTom home it say problem with map you cannot use this map on this device Western _ Europe.
I was trying to plan a trip to France in advance. Any Ideas Please. I did think that maybe you have to be in France before the card would work if this is the case then that's Ok, just dont want to get to the otherside and the card not work.:eek:

Providing its legitimate and the one for the model of Tomtom you have and the version of Tomtom it's running (ver 3 or 4), it should be OK. If you've got the western europe maps from a dubious source, then they're most likely of sod all use as they have to be activated like Windows and are tied to a specified unit. A legitimate one would be on a SD Card with a Tomtom logo sticker on or on one you've installed it to after downloading it through Tomtom HOME.0

Hi, I rang Tomtom customer support, who said that the Tomtom was corrupt
this can just happen so I am told. they sent me lots of instrustions to follow, they weren't clear if i should do them with the SD card in or not so done them without. but this has made no difference. will have to wait till Monday now to ask if I should do it all again with the sd card in place.

Might be worth trying to return it to remove the fear of it not working once your in france.
Alternatively when you phone again make sure and keep the technician on the phone while your doing it.0
