Travel insurance for 5 days in US

I'm looking for advice on decent low cost travel insurance for a 5 day trip to the US later this month.

As my flight only arrives at 10pm local time I don't really see the point getting cover for the last few hours of that day. Would this be the correct thing to do? I know I risk a delay, missed flight etc but I'm more concerned of having insurance out there.

Can anybody recommend a decent company for my short break? I've used Direct Travel Insurance a few times before for holidays but not for short breaks.

TIA

If you're after low cost (not necessarily quality), you could try moneysupermarket.com

If your flight arrives at 10pm it would be advisable to have the insurance starting that day.
In the (admittedly unlikely) event that you were taken ill when you got there, it would avoid being shafted for huge medical fees.

You would be an absolute fool IMHO to risk not having the first day of your trip fully covered. Besides which, you have to give the dates of travel to the insurers and who is to say that if something happened later in the holiday, the policy mightn't be void as you willingly gave incorrect information to the insurers?

Providing you don't have expensive pre-existing conditions you should be looking at no more than a few pounds for that extra days cover, sometimes moneysaving can be taken to extremes.

Another point to remember for the future is that a wise person will take out/already have an existing policy in place from the same day their trip is booked.
  • HI,

I dont know if this is any help to us but we are not long back from USA and it worked out considerably cheaper for us to take a year long family insurance from Direct Line. We were a family of 3 and it started from the minute we called to take out the policy and the paperwork followed within 3 days. When calling for a quote they ask if you are intending to travel to the USA so I assume that you can get a cheaper if not travelling there.

I hope this is some help to us.

Anyone with no insurance cover for one minute of their stay in the USA is very very brave or very very foolish. You will be able to get piece of mind for a very small amount of cash try reducing the amount the cover do you need £20m no maybe £5m is sufficent who knows ? Have a good read up but It would be crazy IMO to go without for even a minute.

    No, it is false economy.

Don't forget insurance for cancellation is well worth it.
