possibly you could get in touch with her friend who is over there, she could give you advice (assuming she has travelled around) and maybe suggest the best time to visit as well?0

I saw an interview with a diver on Aussie TV. He got a very tiny sting from a piece of (box?) jellyfish tentacle and said it was more painful than when he broke both legs and his pelvis in a car crash!
Still I think it's possible to get too het up about the Aussie wildlife's propensity to kill you. I have spent a total of about 2 months in Aus and saw a brown snake once that was running away as fast as it could and a St Andrew's Spider that has a pretty nasty bite apparently.
1 person a year is killed by sharks.
If you want to stay safe in Aus then you're better off making sure you wear your seatbelt, taking plenty of breaks when driving long distances, not smoking and not doing DIY!:D0 -
Well with 3 weeks its probably best to fly direct from Glasgow to say Brisbane on Emirates. (They fly to Brisbane, Sydney & Melbourne) This way you bypass heathrow where the delay likely to be. You can then fly to Sydney and I would then fly out from Melbourne so you're not back tracking on your way back. With the 24 hr+ flight you'll only have 19 days at most & don't forget the jetlag!
As for places to go, so many! Most important thing is when you're flying, as it can get very hot up & humid in Queensland in summer (Nov-Apr) but is v pleasant in winter when rest of the country can get quite cool.
Of course Sydney but I would think about frasier Island, Whitsunday Islands was my favourite when I was there esp if get chance to sail round them! The Beach there is amazing. One of the best in the world! (Google images)
I would use domestic flights to get round. Jetstar & Pacific Blue cheapest. If you want to find out more I found a site called www.kiwimoneysavers.com useful. They're New Zealand based but have some interesting info on flights in OZ. Hope it helps & may give you some ideas for when you're travelling.0
