Good photo view/catalogue software?

I have the software which came with my camera, it detects the camera and copies the photos to my PC very well but the viewing side is, well, a bit rubbish and it conflicts with the IE toolbar, wont run properly with Firefox etc..

Can anyone recommend any good software to organise and let me view my photos? I'm happy to keep the old software to do the loading, it puts pictures into a subdir according to the date and I quite like this.

Free would be best but I'd certainly consider paying for something good.

Thanks.

  • Irfanview is quite good freeware. Also the freeware Picasa2 from https://www.google.co.uk. With the latter, go to 'More' and you'll find it lower down on the next page.

Opened this thread, but found that my suggestions had already been said

I use exactly the same: Irfanview and Picasa2. Both are free, and both are best of breed.

Like the look of Picasa, unfortunately my hard disk has just died so I'll have to give it a try when I've recovered my PC (probably mid 2006).

I'm constantly amazed that there's so much good quality software available for free
  • Yes - I'm amazed, too!

BTW - Sorry about the PC. Perhaps you should try to find a thread on the site on cheap PC's! I like First Direct's 'Internet Banking Plus'

which gathers all your accounts under one banner. It even pulls in your Nectar Points and other things too. like shares if you put you shareholdings onto https://www.iii.co.uk

    It's so useful!

For the record, Picasa is superb, infinitely better than the software bundled with my Casio camera and better than anything else I've seen by a long way. Well done google.
