Bank - allegedly - spam emails...

At work we are inundated with emails from (allegedly) Lloyds, Abbey, Natwest, HSBC and I am sure I have missed a few out.
They all start off by saying that there is a security problem or some such like and please click on link etc and give your bank details (as if!)... they are getting more varied as the weeks/months go on.
They are almost brilliant (slight exaggeration), they also have links at the bottom to the FSA!
I am so sick of deleting them, they bypass our spam collection thingy (sorry I'm not into IT stuff).
I really hope that no one falls for these emails and clicks on the links and fills in their bank details.
But I would love to know two things. 1. How do you stop them. 2. Who are these idiots that are trying to con people? And three - an extra one - what country are these coming from? The spelling and grammar was bad, but it is remarkably better of late.

They're usually from African countries especially Nigeria but they can of course be from anywhere. You can't completely stop them but spam filters can catch the majority of them.
The best way to deal with them is to educate yourself and other people about how to spot them.0 -
To give an idea of the scale of spam - at work we normally process around 18,000 - 20,000 messages a minute, of those we deliver around 2000/min. The rest are rejected as spam or viruses, thats around 300 a second being rejected

I always forward any emails I get related to Bank Spam to reports@banksafeonline.org.uk this is an organisation who monitors and closes them down http://www.banksafeonline.org.uk/report_scam.html0

I always fill them in with false information. If ten of us did so everytime, they would have to filter out the false ones from the NEDs.
I always lead on the one with the job offer as it wastes their time as well, last one was a Lisa from some where.0 -
