Asus eee 701???

I know there's a laptop thread but I'm really looking for this specific model in pink or at a push white. I seemed to see them everywhere not too long ago, I think I even put a pcworld link for them in a thread last month. They were around the £169 mark then, now I can't find stock anywhere except ebay/amazon etc and the prices being demanded are just plain ridiculous!!!!

I'm so annoyed with myself for not ordering it earlier now! I just didn't expect such a low spec netbook to take the country by storm!!! I actually thought I'd get a better deal leaving it 'til nearer christmas!

What I wanted to ask, was if any of you more technically advanced peeps knew any reputable sites that may have this in stock? I've googled but got some really dodgy looking places, I've also checked any major stores that I can think off that would stock it. But again open to suggestions 'cos sure I've missed something.

Failing that, (sorry getting a bit long winded! :o) I've got an Elonex onet+ on order (since flippin July!!!!) and they called me today to promise to have it by 7th Dec. But I've read some terrible reviews and noticed lots sending it back? Any views on it appreciated in case I'm stuck with it! It's only for DD but she will want to play basic online kids games, visit youtube etc.

Please help! :o :A :D

I have a white one for sale, boxed excellent condition but it is the 701 4G.
Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.
  • black 701 at play.com for 159 with free delivery. Plus Quidco if you want it.
    Have a 701 and a 901. Luv 'em.

Didn't know it was so old. In case you haven't guessed I'm a bit of a techiephobe! :o

I just saw it a while ago and thought it was much better than the Elonex I had on order and ideal for my daughter? I don't want to spend a fortune on it, £200 absolute tops. She's only 5 so not exactly bothered if it has bells and whistles on, in fact the only thing she's bothered about is whether its pink or not! ;)

Saying that I do want something she can actually use, i.e. simple online games, homework etc and it has to be wireless, compact, lightweight etc. The asus just seemed ideal?

Thanks, but I have no idea what the difference is? :o

See this is what I mean, techiphobe! Perhaps what I should have said was "What can I get for under £200, pref £150?" :D

I've read some great reviews about the asus eee, as appose to Elonex which seemed awful, that I thought the extra £70ish was worth it.

Thanks I'll take a look. If it comes to it she'll have to have black, just want to make sure I've exhausted all options to getting the pink.

Can I just ask? Is there a huge difference between the 701 & 901?

  • 901 screen is bigger with a better resolution. This makes a big difference when web browsing. The 901 battery life is a comfortable 6 hours, compared to 3 on the 701. The 901 also has bluetooth. Standby on the 901 doesn't run the battery down the same way as it does on the 701. That all said, the 701 is very good for the price. Linux boots really fast and you can tailor xp to boot quick also.

If you're prepared to accept it in glorious black, the first two here are £160 (and the second one is allegedly "also available in white").

This may be a male thing, but I just can't imagine why on earth would you want a pink laptop?!
