Hi hope someone can keep me right on this I have a dell dimension 2400 in need of repair I am fairly certain by process of elimination that the motherboard has developed a fault that is the computer will not boot. I get LEDS on the H/drive, motherboard & power on but the monitor show no signal in that the LED stays orange also there are no beeps from the MOBO after switch on I can hear the H/drive whirring away my question is can I use a MOBO not for a dell just as long as its socket 478 and will fit in the case.

I thought Dells used their own type of motherboards for the 2400 though i could be wrong.
Ultimately you could replace the board and put a new case on it if that were to be true, thus still using your drives, memory, processor and peripherals.0 -
have you tried using a livedisk to test the computer?0

Hi Dave, this Dell 2400 is it the PC or Power Edge 2400 server? Any way, first clear the bios using the jumper on the mainboard, unplug a disk drives, USB devices and all PCI/PCI E cards from the machine and power it up with only keyboard and graphics card, monitor. Post back and let us know what happend.Since when has the world of computer software design been about what people want? This is a simple question of evolution. The day is quickly coming when every knee will bow down to a silicon fist, and you will all beg your binary gods for mercy.0

Its the PC, I tried as you suggested already, even using another H/drive with the same result all that was left was MOBO CPU and memory which I tried with one of the two sticks tried individually again with the same results really I think narrowing it down to the MOBO or CPU.0

If you do have a dud motherboard, you may find yourself replacing the motherboard, case and PSU unless you get hold of a Dell replacement.
