Family and ctc if working under 16 hours?

Me and DH have just been having a very cheery conversation about the recession etc.

Anyway, we were wondering what would happen to our tax credits if he were to lose his job, although he's just been given a full contract so it's unlikely in the short term at least thank goodness!

My job is safe (carer) but I work less than 16 hours.

We know he would get contributions based JSA for up to six months, but we wouldn't get wtc. I'm guessing we could apply for HB and CTC if need be?

But what about ctc - would we still get those. My first thought was no but then I had a rethink and thought unemployed people get ctc don't they?

Like I said, it was a cheery conversation! :D And it's all hypothetical but it has got me thinking...

  • Yes you will still get CTC if he loses his job. It may be worth increasing your hours to 16 if the worst happens. Why don't you try figures in www.entitledto.co.uk .

    DOH! Didn't think of entitledto!

Yes, in reality, we would either increase my hours or I'd get another part time job if he couldn't find anything (I'm sure we'd sort something at least), but you know how these fears play on your mind once you voice them?
