If he's housebound though-he cant go out!!! So how can he get to the bank miseter
Your best bet, I would say is to call the banks who offer basic accounts and explain the situation. There must be many people in the same boat as your dad.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

thanks penny-pincher,
did a quick web search to see which banks had a phone service that open now.
tried hsbc (i hope i got that right) he needs to go into a branch to open one so that no good the lady on the phone was really sorry she couldn't help.
then i rang tsb explained to the lady the problem that dad just needs a basic account and I will be able to pay in any monies on his behalf that was my main worry has dad is getting a payable order from the pension credit for a little over a £1000 that's the reason for opening this account. they said it was no problem a pack is going to sent just fill it in and return it. so hopefully keeping fingers crossed everything will work out ok.
just got to find out about what id and other papers needed as dad doesn't drive or have a passport.
i would of thought that there would be help for people like dad home visits and such.
thanks again0 -
Its terrible isnt it! Im disabled myself and depend soley on my OH. Lucky in the fact though, that I had all bank accounts etc opened before I got so ill, but we never think this is going to happen to us
Many accounts can be opened online now too.
I you have no luck, get in contact with the DWP or social worker and explain the circumstances. Im pretty sure it will get sorted.
