I have asked this a while ago in one of my unrelated threads but didn't really get a certain response.
Do compensation payouts affect benefits?
If so, what benefits would be affected?
Thanks

Depends how much you get.......... and you usually have to pay back any benefits received..._pale_Oops!! Should I have posted this??? Some users don't think I shouldn't be offering advice due to my occupation!!!0

If you are talking about Icesave again the answer is no again as in you would not get benefit whilst waiting.0

Some compensation can be disregarded if it is in trust but this is very complicated and you would need proper guidance from a qualified person0

manhattan,
Perhaps you could clarify what compensation it is that you are referring to? I am also guessing that it is the reimbursement of your Icesave savings.Gone ... or have I?0 -

All income affects mean tested benefits.
If you think about it makes sense as with the extra money, you become less dependant on benefits and the system (as you have money).

But if you're talking about Icesave you surely would not have any extra money, you'd just be back to where you were before the debacle0 -

Yes they do. If you get compensation for loss of income, any means tested benefits you've received for the period that compensation covers would be repayable INCLUDING any housing or council tax benefits.
If your compensation puts your assets (bank account/savings) over the limit for the benefits you're claiming, you will lose or have the amount reduced.0
