OK, I recently swapped my xbox for a mate's cos his was chipped and banned on live. No problem for me cos its only used by my 7yr old son to play games and no way is he going on Live.
Today its stopped with red ring of death (3 red lights). I've hunted around and seen some repair guides which involve stripping it down to the bones. Does anyone know where I can get someone to fix it for me cheaply? So far cheapest I've seen is £50.
Don't want to send it back to Microsoft for obvious reasons....

£50 is a fair price when you consider parts & labour.
Do it yourself, it's quite easy to take apart. Not like you've got to worry about voiding the warranty.0 -

My son's box had the red rng, if you go to the xbox web page, I think there's a telephone number, he sent his back, it was picked up, sent to Germany, fixed and sent back, only it wasn't fixed. it was brand new,0

When mine went couldnt be fixed ring of death 3 lights can be one of many faults.
Theres a button sequence to press you press 2 buttons count which lights flash and that gives you a code to tell you which fault it is.
As stated b4 it is often the little x shaped clamps not pulling the cooling sinks down.also some folks claim rubbers on back pressuring board upwards can help. But any or all fixes in many peoples on the forums i read seem to think fixes never lasted long.
Xbox scene and you tube can help you with ideas.Getting into them is fiddly also if you take it apart id put a quarter the screws back in cause chances are youll be going back in soon.0
