Dyspraxia and Bi-Polar

Hi

This is my first post but it is quite apt to go into this forum, I have yet again lost a job due to my Dyspraxia and Bi-Polar (blooming Kerry Katona she does nothing to help this illness) I am currently going through a rough stage I call it a wobble because like the Weebles I wont fall down.

I am postiing to ask for some advice on claiming benefits as I dont feel that at this current time I am able to cope with the day to day part of getting up and going to work well not on a full-time basis and I have registered with an agency to only get 2 shifts a week to help in the mean time depending on how quick I can get benefits. My brother is moving into my spare room to help us out with the money but understandably he is unwilling to move in while I am having a wobble as he does not feel it is fair on me, my brother and me have a long standing joke that it should have been him going mad first.

What benefits could I get and would they recognise the Dyspraxia for an illness in its own right or would it get lumped in with Dyslexia, I also have a feeling I may be somewhere on the Autistic Spectrum too

Help I have a meeting with an advisor on Monday at the Job Centre

  • First of all, don't panic - when I signed on (back in 2002, so it was a while ago), they were very helpful with regard to JSA and the fact that I was 'only' signed on with agencies at the time. (Pity they didn't mention the fact that I didn't have to run myself into the ground phyisically by working full-time, or that there was a tax credit I could have claimed because of my physical health, but one can't have everything. ;) )

Were you given any reason for being 'dismissed'? If you've got bi-polar that would come under the DDA and your employers may well have broken the law.

If you're not up to the rigours of finding a job right now, are you actually in a position to claim JSA? You might be better off asking about Income Support. Oh, and if you've got little or no income, also look into claiming Housing Benefit and Council Tax Rebate.

I'm sure others will be along soon with more advice. Good luck, and try not to worry too much about this.

I am not worrying too much about this as I will be getting paid, no they did not give my BiPolar as a reason or I would be having their guts for that one and I would make sure that they lose their Investors In People. I am hoping that once I talk to this advisor that they can give me some advice, My husband is working but he works part time too (too long to explain)
And my little brother is moving in so we are planning to charge him x amount and that will cover the basic rent and give me some extra money.

    thanks for your advice
