Big interest cuts for savings

I'm personally very worried about how much interest rates on saving accounts could be cut. It's not unusual for banks and building societies to cut saving rates more than the Bank of England cut the base rate.
And if anyone says I'm lucky I have money to save - I'm not. I'm 25 and haven't been able to afford my first car yet and that is the main purpose of the money I have in savings.
