Northern Ireland Private Rentals Laws

Hi guys,
i was wondering if someone could give me a bit of advice.
my lease on my current rental is up in January, and we will be moving on. Reading this forum has given me so much good advice, but I live in Northern Ireland, and Im not sure if everything that is law on the mainland applies to Northern Ireland. I have had a google, but havent been able to find anything.
my questions are:
1. the deposit protection scheme and the Housing Act 2004 - do they apply to NI?
2. Can NI Landlords be members of the National Landlords Association?
3. Having the landlords address on the contract, according to the Landlord & Tenant Act 1987 - is this valid in NI?
4. Again, is it law in NI that the deposit should be returned within two weeks?
I would be really grateful if someone had some knowledge on NI private rentals law, or could even direct me to websites which have the info?

The Landlord & Tenant Act 1987 only applies to England & Wales.
The requirements of the tenancy deposit scheme as per the Housing Act 2004 also only relate to England & Wales.

Yes - if you look on www.landlords.org, you'll find a contact number/email address for the NI area rep.. 2. Can NI Landlords be members of the National Landlords Association?
I don't know that it has to be on the actual contract but the Private Tenancies(Northern Ireland) Order 2006 (came into effect Apr 07) offers a similar proviso about the info being provided upon request either by a tenant or the District Council - it's in S66(2). 3. AFIAA there is no law that gives a precise time - it's about what is "reasonable". Most would view a max of 30 days as on the outside edge of reasonable.4. Again, is it law in NI that the deposit should be returned within two weeks?
You don't say where you are in NI but there are law centres who can help and you may find http://www.housingadviceni.org/ helpful. There is also Shelter on Howard Street in Belfast.
We did help another tenant who was having specific problems with getting a deposit back via a franchised letting agent in NI - will post back if there was anything in the thread or previous PMs that could help you.0 -
