Whole lettuce is so much cheaper than pre-bagged lettuce (e.g. 40p for a couple of little gems instead of £1.99 for a smallish pre-bagged portion). I buy two/three different types of whole lettuce, wash, dry, tear, mix together in a huge bowl and then bag into reasonable sized portions. If you're not sure what goes well together, have a look at the pre-bagged stuff and then go over to the loose counter to see what's available!
As for dressings, I make up my own and store in a jam jar in the fridge, adding to the salad just before serving.0 -
once the spring comes, you can grow your own! so easy! We've had one packet of seeds last us 2 years so far and we have our own lettuce from May until September.
You can do it in a pot if you have no garden.
and it tastes great (unless you are manic or eileen!!)
