Yes but as Milarky says you can have more than one of these accounts so could open another today. Still showing on website now.

Heck, got martins email this morning, tried to open a fixed rate saver, but then realised I needed the money to be ready and cleared in my variable web saver....its sitting in TSB, (a just matured 24month regular saver..8K)

Is it realistic to transfer the money to Halifax before tonight? I called Halifax, and they said I could ask TSB to send it 'quick' and it would clear within an hour (but they may charge me), as it would clear more quickly than me doing it on internet banking....any advice.

I dont really see how the bank could send it any quicker than I could (on the internet)

    HELP!

LTSB are reportedly operating Faster Payments via telephone banking, whereas they are not yet available via online banking.

Suggest that you ring them and specify that you want the transfer carried out as a Faster Payment.

I did this yesterday - phoned their free number for phonebank express [0800 015 2000] and eventually got through to an operator. Asked for a 'faster payment' for £2000 and it was confirmed by them and immedately appeared in Halifax. By now, the telephone requests should all be going by FPS if you ask for it [If it doesn't you'll know because they'll tell you it hasn't left the account at all and would go by the BACS the following morning only - therefore request can be cancelled safely also...]

Thanks for the replies, Ive tried the two numbers on their web site for phone banking:

    Call PhoneBank® to speak to us 24/7 on 0845 3 000 000.

If you need to call us from abroad, or prefer not to use our 0845 number, you can also call PhoneBank® on 01733 347 007.

And tried the one suggested by Milarky, but they all do just a brief connecting ring and then silence....wonder if anyone alse is having problems getting through to TSB?

EDIT: just got a ringing tone, and a recorded message saying the phonebanking system is out of operation due to 'unforseen circumstances'......just my bloomin' luck!!
(im guessing that with the interest rate cut yesterday, and perhaps a good few people moving their money around to get these fixed rates before they disappear has clogged up their systems!)

The Halifax interest rate on their 3 month fixed web saver only went down 0.25% today. I've opened another one today.

I finally got through to TSB at 4.30, they transfered my money, and I checked at 6pm, it was there!!!

I checked the interest rate, and at that point it was still 6.75%, but you are right domcastro, its now down to 6.50%.

Suppose .25% is not that major, but if i missed out, it must have been by seconds!!:rotfl:

I guess when the paperwork comes it will confirm the rate...but they usually state rate changes by date, rather than hour!! At least I got it moved in time, before any more rate cuts, and as its fixed, it will not go any lower now ive opened it!!

I think you will find that you have managed to get the higher 6.75%.

I just applied moments ago and according to the Online Banking I got 6.50% on 1 year compared to the advertised 5.70% from tomorrow onwards. Choose "Tax info, changes, interest and closure" from the menu on the left once you are viewing the new account.

    Oh and take a screenshot!
