Here goes then -
1. The wiring in my 6 year old flat is a disgraceful mesh of taught spaghetti. It works of course, but that isn't really the point of regulation of electricians is it? I spotted this when I moved in and made a mental note to replace much of it myself.
2. I noticed an internal wall in the stairwell on the ground floor suffers from damp.
3. Unbelievably, the window lock fittings throughout the whole block are made of 1 mm thick plastic! Makes the keys a bit superfluous I think.
4. Now it gets annoying - the other day I was sat listening to digital radio and with my PC humming in the background and I heard workman outside my door on the landing. Minutes later it went very quiet in my flat, because my power went off. I guessed immediately that the workmen had caused it. They explained that they were changing my neighbours meter. Turns out that for six years London Electricity have been under the impression that our two meters were the other way round. Electricity bills have to date been issued accordingly. There are 16 flats in my block. 12.5% of them have had incorrect energy bills since they were built. Is this a common problem, I wonder?
5. I returned to my flat last night after a weekend away and noticed a cold draft and suddenly after a few weeks of wondering realised that I can see 2mm of daylight at the top of one of my opening windows. This double-glazed window section looks fine until I realised it isn't square. The opening section has sagged with the weight of the glass in it.
Maybe it's time I should speak to Jerry at NHBC?
