    The interest rate on student loans = inflation in the month they set it annaully isn't it?

    Nothing to do with the base rate unless it's changed since I had one (in the first year they existed :rolleyes: )

    you are right they are still inflation linked, not boe base rate linked

    can't you hear the firming of balance sheets as profit margins strengthen....?

    I forecast a fall in the cost for heating in bank fat cat offices as they heat their rooms with the gleeful rubbing of hands.

    They way things are going they'll probably go for open fires so they can burn banknotes on them :D
    Joking aside, I do remember reading many years ago about a guy in the Lebanon who wallpapered his house with banknotes saying that it was cheaper than buying wallpaper. No idea if it was true but it wouldn't surprise me.
