What are E.on playing at??

In September my deal with E.on came to an end, I checked all the comparison websites and it was still E.on that came out on top so I switched to their Energy Online Extra Saver E7 version 8 tarrif. Because British Gas still hadn't put their prices up I phoned & checked with E.on first if the prices advertised were going to go up and was told they had already been increased and there wouldn't be another increase till January 2009.

The big 6 increased their prices in August and since then its been widely reported that the price of fuel has gone down & whilst this hasn't been passed on to us poor customers the fuel companies are saying there "probably" won't be the expected increases in the price we pay in January.

I've received a letter from E.on this morning telling me how lucky I am that I avoided the increases announced in August but now my prices are going up!!
!!!!!! are they playing at??

  • I got the same letter this morning. The Online Version 8 appears to give more discount then Version 10 so still sticking with this tariff for the time being.

Although deciding on whether to move to British Gas Click Energy 6 as that appears to be a good deal.

I can't believe after only 2 months I'm having to go through this all again!!
Just worked it out and its nearly £150 a year more!! I'm so !!!!ed off at E.on, I specifically asked about the price increase before swapping!!
The Energyhelpline hasn't caught up with the change yet but checking their results against the calculation for my new bill I would save £44.72 going to Npower for both. I could save £37.81 with Scottish Power for the Electric and save £4.91 with Ebico for Gas (or NPower is £6.09 more for Gas) or I could go for Scottish Power's fixed price tarrif & pay £1.28 a year more.
Problem is how do you know if any of the others are planning on putting their prices up again??
  • I've also noticed the comparison sites don't have the new rate. Although the rate is not far off EON's standard rate so I am making a comparison based on that. Although discounts will differ between the online and standard rate.

I am making a move to Scottish Power Online Energy and getting £62 from Quidco. If the rate increases with these guys then its going to be another move.

BB78 if you are thinking of moving suppliers then phone EON and notify them of it and tell them the reason for the move is due to the tariff increase this will allow you to pay the old tariff until the move happens. The letter you received states this.

I had my yearly usage so its easy to work out my bill pre & post increase. The discount for duel fuel online version 8 paying by direct debit is 13.3%.

Where does it say in the letter you stay on the old tariff if you are planning on switching because of the increase??

I've just rung them, told them I'm not happy that they put me off switching to British Gas telling me they were cheaper & then they go & put their prices up!! Also had the fairness discussion, they said they bought the fuel at the higher price & this version wasn't increased in August because it had only started in July & wasn't fair to increase it when people had only been on it a month! Well I've only been on it 2 months (& its only been around 3 months) so why is it fair to increase it??!! Made the point it would have been fairer to keep the price the same then in a few months IF they pass on the saving (yeah right!) for the decrease in price they wouldn't need to change the price on this version & would be able to say the price wasn't increased in August with all the others so therefore isn't due a decrease.

Its a slap in the face to annouce an increase when its widely reported the overall price has dropped!!

Def going for a switch, save money & get me some cashback!! :D

When Eon put their prices up in August, they created a new tariff called V8 which they left at the old rates. All the comparison/switching websites carried these rates, and so new customers were fooled into thinking these rates carried the inceases. They also swindled existing Eon online customers by enticing them to switch to this tariff, whilst cutting their online discounts at the same time (by about 6%).

Joke is, I too recieved this letter this morning (as an existing customer), and the online guaranteed discounts quoted in August have also been cut. I must ring them up. I'm tempted to call them crooks but I suppose they haven't done anything illegal.

Don't waste anymore money by calling the 0845 number on the letter, use 0800 363363 :D
Knew it wasn't going to get me anywhere but I wanted to tell them I ain't happy!!
  • BB78 - it should state it overleaf of the letter received. Its also stated here on another similar threadbby someone else: http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=1258049&page=2

I can't seem to find the terms and conditions on EON's website, but if I do find it I will provide a link.

It is stated in the last paragraph on the reverse of the letter, below the new price tables.
"If for any reason you're unhappy with the price increase and want to change either your deal or supplier, let us know within 14 days. We'll make sure you're not affected while your transfer is completed..."
